Endgame study improves your whole game!
The first Winning Endgame Tactics by IM Willemze served as a starter kit focusing on how to practise the important tactical (mating) patterns that the queen can pull off. It emphasized learning the value of a preparatory move and ended with how to defend against mating threats.
Winning Endgame Tactics 2, however, extends the scope of Queen Maneuvers curriculum by combining the lessons you’ve learned and taking them to a much higher level.
But, not before revising the three most important types of preparatory moves used to initiate a double attack, discovered attack, or a skewer: a) targeting, b) chasing and c) luring.
All these preparatory moves were dealt with in the first course, but they merit review because they reappear in every chapter in this course.
The queen is the most powerful piece on the chessboard because she can decide the game at once. Imagine how dangerous you become, once you recognize tactical opportunities and exploit them with simple, but powerful queen maneuvers.
Truly mastering the winning queen maneuvers will make you unstoppable in all phases of the game.
– IM Thomas Willemze
In four learning modules, IM Willemze pays particular attention to:
1 ♛ Winning the rook
2 ♛ Winning the queen
3 ♛ Mating the king
4 ♛ Defending against the queen
Like course 1, the final learning unit against teaches students to rebuff an attacking queen because strong defensive skills can help a player extend the game and sometimes win the game with a counterattack.
Targeting, chasing and luring
The tactical combinations are less obvious this time though. They are advanced techniques and exercises that will improve our tactical abilities, sharpen your calculation skills, and enable you to extend your visualization horizon.
IM Willemze argues the endgame is an excellent environment for improving both your calculation and visualization skills, due to the forcing and uncluttered nature of the positions.
Unclutter your endgames by developing a clear understanding of the power of the queen – the piece with the power to win a game almost on its own.

Even when one of my opponents didn’t follow theory, which often happens with beginners,

At this level this course covers a sweet spot.

he would cover all possible silly reactions that could derail my well-thought opening, and how to deal with them

Even above beginner level, knowing the first ten moves is usually sufficient, and the variations in this course average nine moves.

more importantly, when we have to make an exception to the standard plan, a very good explanation of what would happen if we didn’t do it,

I’m still a fairly new adult learner and have looked at all the major courses and finally feel like I have an option that makes sense for my level and available time.

I’ve only reviewed all the black lines but I am liking the author’s approach of adding exercises after each chapter to make sure you are looking at the positions themselves rather than just routinely memorizing the lines without absorbing the content of his commentary.

I think many of these reviewers forget what it was like to be a beginner, or a casual player.

Also, this course is not aimed at advanced and master level therefore; it didn’t overwhelmed me with things that I don’t need to worry about at my level.

he gives you basic principles that just works 90% of the situations – it sounded silly to me at first, but then it became a daily prayer

For taking all the fun out of my chess games. I never thought anybody would be cruel enough to make winning so easy that chess has become boring.

Now that I don’t need to invest much energy in the opening phase, I can concentrate on improving my middle and endgame play.

I would never recommend this book to anybody that I would consider a beginner, and maybe not even a “casual” player (depending on the definition).

Another problem I faced was during my well-planned opening, sometimes opponent would bring the queen out

keep repeating basic principles annoying number of times (sometimes say it with a beard then later repeat it without the beard 😁)

In two recent wins, my opponents failed to follow the golden rules, making it easy for me to win the games.
