Outsmart the French Defense with
the Trench Knights of Tarrasch
Avoid the locked positions, weak pawns, and everything you hate about the French. Dig in with your knights this way. So no matter how the game opens up, you’re in prime position to seize the advantage!
Caught in a chokehold versus 1…e6?
You push 2.e5 and suddenly you’re tiptoeing on a shaky center… struggling to keep your d-pawn and light-squared bishop alive.
Develop with 2.Nc3 and Black’s …Bb4 snaps it off. Now you’re stuck babysitting doubled pawns.
Trade on d5? Congratulations! You just solved Black’s problem piece.
Now let’s flip the script with Vanquish The French: Tarrasch Variation.
This repertoire for White counters 1…e6 by entrenching your knights on d2, e2, or f3. So you avoid those weak pawns, annoying pins, and counterattacks by Black. Then you outplay them in clear, strategic positions.

From d2 and e2, your knights can meet
any explosion in the center and seize
key squares that open up
And who better to guide you through this opening than Grandmaster Daniel Gormally.
He’s racked up podium finishes at the 78th Hastings International Open, 102nd British Championship, 2nd EU Individual Championship, and other elite events.
His best qualification?
Gormally has been picking the French apart with the Tarrasch for over 20 years!
Check the databases. Since 2020, he’s been racking up a ridiculous score of 89%! And today, he’s showing exactly how to…
Vanquish The French Defense!
After 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2, Black has 4 major replies. But all of them give you a clear path to control and comfort.
Did they strike with 3…c5?
Great! Now you saddle them with an isolated pawn, while shutting down the dynamic play they’re hoping for.

Black has the isolated queen’s pawn
but you have the more active pieces!
Developing with 3…Nf6 makes sense. But it walks straight into your plans. You kick the knight away with e4-e5, then nurse the slight initiative into a full-blown attack!

This rook lift will be one of your
signature attacking weapons
against 3…Nf6
Now you can’t stop Black from building their Fort Knox. But why would you!? You just reinforce e5 to enjoy superior space and mobility. Then watch Black suffocate in their bunker.

A lasting space advantage and the choice
to win the bishop pair on demand give you
the upper-hand against the Fort Knox
And against the modern 3…Be7, you calmly develop to ideal squares. Then you strike with the e-pawn, igniting your attack.

The e5-pawn not only cramps Black
but also prepares b2-b4 and Qd3
with a mating attack!
Just to be clear — these positions are never fully locked.
You’ll always have 2 to 4 files and diagonals available to your pieces. And through these open lines, Gormally shows you crank up the pressure on Black’s position.
Let’s recap what you’re getting:
🎯 A complete repertoire against the French using the Tarrasch with over 150 MoveTrainer variations.
🎯 14 Quickstarter lines that capture the main tactical and strategic ideas of the opening.
🎯 Plus 20 hours of video explaining the ideas of the opening. So you can come up with good moves, even when the game leaves theory.
The French Defense remains one of the top 3 weapons against 1.e4. And with more elite GMs embracing 1…e6 — starting with 17th World Champion Ding Liren — more club players will willingly lock up their light-squared bishop against you.
