If you consider yourself a casual player, surely you have at least one course in your dashboard that you quite don’t get. It’s not the author, it’s not the opening, it’s just that it’s not made for you. The lines may be too long and complicated, or you just can’t picture any of your opponents ever playing them.
Well, community author Benner has it clear: tailor your study to your challenges.

That’s why he focused on making The Relentless Reti (for casual players) simple to understand.
Simple but not peaceful
The Reti Opening (1.Nf3) is the most flexible first move. It’s dynamic, ambitious, and seldom expected by club players, so many get out-right bad positions. But more importantly, it gives you control:
We don’t commit to any certain pawn structure, meaning we can tailor our pawn-pushes directly to meet everything Black throws at us.
So no matter how Black plays, you’ll always have a way to hit their setup. That puts you in charge of the position as you decide which direction to take the game into. That way you can navigate the opening and reach comfortable middlegames where you have every right to press for the win.
Easy to understand, easy to study
Here you’ll learn the essential 1-2-3 memory points for Reti players.
Memorizing lines and going through hundreds of variations won’t make you a better player. Understanding and learning the key ideas and motives in an opening and trying to implement them in your own games in creative and unique ways, THAT is guaranteed to make you stronger!
You won’t study Black’s best play when club players unlikely will play so. Instead, you’ll learn the best-scoring replies to the most often played lines according to the lichess database. Probability over quantity: tailoring your study to your needs.
Of course, inevitably, you’ll play many positions that won’t be covered in this repertoire. That’s why the annotations are so rich and explanatory: to help you orientate yourself in whatever situation.
Here’s a preview of what you’ll get:
Typical ideas chapter – queenside structure, thematics of the c8-bishop, center decisions
Tactics chapter – long diagonal shots, flexible Queen hits from b3, devious Knight jumps…
Prioritize your study – learn which lines are more likely to happen in your games
A clear system for visual cues symbolization – to help you remember the ideas behind every move
A committed author – ready to sweep any doubt you may have
With no chapter longer than 20 trainables and the whole course under 120 lines, this is a neat course to learn the philosophy of the Reti and a repertoire that can grow along with your level.

Now that I don’t need to invest much energy in the opening phase, I can concentrate on improving my middle and endgame play.

Even above beginner level, knowing the first ten moves is usually sufficient, and the variations in this course average nine moves.

Really good course

For taking all the fun out of my chess games. I never thought anybody would be cruel enough to make winning so easy that chess has become boring.
