Fight Fire With Fire!
Meet The Scotch With The Mieses
After 1.e4 e5, the Scotch is one of the top 3 openings for White.
Not only is this club-favorite weapon experiencing a resurgence in popularity… it also contains plenty of dangerous gambit lines that WILL blow away the unprepared player.
So what’s an ambitious 1…e5 player to do?
“Fight fire with fire!” says Candidate Master Juan Almaguer.
Almaguer is a self-learned chess player, who represented Mexico in the 2018 Batumi Chess Olympiad. He’s also the VP of content for Chessable. So he knows a thing or two about creating five-star chess courses.
In Return Fire: The Scotch For Black, Almaguer combines his expertise in chess and course creation to give you a complete solution against the Scotch based on…
The Sharp And Unbalanced
Mieses Variation
Forget about suffering the entire game trying to hold a draw…
Because the Mieses Variation fights for the full point like a crazed bulldog! It brings about positions full of imbalances, and matches White’s aggression blow for blow.
The lines inside are all part of Almaguer’s personal repertoire. So alongside the precise move-by-move analysis, you’ll also get plenty of strategic breakdowns from a veteran in the opening.
Here’s how it works:
First, you’ll enter the Scotch Opening with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4. Next, you’ll pressure the enemy center with pieces 3…exd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6. And if White pushes with 5.e5 — the most popular move — you’ll fire the opening salvo with 5…Qe7!

Black’s last move starts an intense battle,
and forces the enemy queen to block its bishop
From here, both sides must press forward, because backing down often proves disastrous.
But don’t worry.
Over 14 hours of video and 397 MoveTrainer variations will guide your moves. So you’ll not only survive the inevitable firefight — but score quick and satisfying knockouts, too.

Only 16 moves in but White’s already busted!
Of course, White can deviate from the moves above, and steer the game away from the Mieses Variation. Those lines are covered, too:
⚔️ You’ll take the fun out of the Scotch Gambit by steering the game to positional waters, where you have a safe king and clear middlegame plan.
⚔️ Against the Göring Gambit, you’ll give back one of the extra pawns to misplace the enemy queen. Or exchange a pair of pieces to blunt White’s attack, and accelerate your development.
⚔️ You’ll be given a complete arsenal of lines against nearly every setup by White after 4…Nf6 — including the Four Knights, Schmidt, Italian Scotch, and more.
⚔️ Plus, you also get an extra and alternative complete repertoire based on the Classical Variation with 4…Bc5. This add-on makes you less predictable in the opening, while fine-tuning your strategic know-how.

At this level this course covers a sweet spot.

more importantly, when we have to make an exception to the standard plan, a very good explanation of what would happen if we didn’t do it,

In two recent wins, my opponents failed to follow the golden rules, making it easy for me to win the games.

keep repeating basic principles annoying number of times (sometimes say it with a beard then later repeat it without the beard 😁)

Another problem I faced was during my well-planned opening, sometimes opponent would bring the queen out

I’m still a fairly new adult learner and have looked at all the major courses and finally feel like I have an option that makes sense for my level and available time.
