The whole world wants to know…
Can Nepo do it this time?
Can he topple Carlsen from the top spot and take over the crown which the previous candidates could not?
So what really sets him apart from the rest?
Is it his stupendous attacking skills setting fire on the board even at the top levels of chess?
Is it his marvelous time management where he plays rather quickly at times and intimidates his opponent?
Is it his AlphaZero-esque style of play that not only seems magical but is also highly effective?
We wanted to figure out the secret behind Nepomniatchi’s magic… and that’s why FM Viktor Neustroev brings to you a massive 12-hour training Play Chess Like Nepo… where he dissects Nepo’s playing style, from opening to strategy to defense to endgame technique.
If you love Nepo’s playing style and want to learn more about how to imitate it in your own games, this course might be for you.
Here’s what you are going to learn:
- Vicious Russian-style attacks. Nepo is a Russian product, and it shows in the way he launches his attacks. Viktor gives you the example from his game against Li Chao in the 2021 Sharjah Grand Prix. Look how he casually sacrifices his bishop and then converts it into a win.
- Those quiet killer moves. Most sound tactical combinations start with a quiet move that sets the stage beforehand. Check out this unassuming 26…e5! trying to attack the queen. That’s only a ruse though—when you realize the actual idea behind that move. Hint: look at the colored move suggestions in the diagram.
- Opening gone wrong. When you play your opening wrong—especially when you sacrifice your knight for an early fistfight… Nepo will tear you apart and leave you thinking what went wrong! That’s what happened in his game against Drazic in the 2021 St Kanzian. Very sharp game, worth taking a look. (Plus Viktor’s awesome commentary to boot.)
- 8.h4 and 10.g4… no mercy! You have to be a calculation monster to play this line in the Reti opening and still make your opponent sweat in fear. That’s what makes Nepo special—even his second-long moves can be extremely well-calculated. Want to learn how to play like him? Check out Chapter 18.
- One mistake by Nakamura… in the 2021 St Louis Rapid sealed his fate against Nepo, who went on to sacrifice his queen to reach a double rooks vs queen position. Look how he hassled Nakamura throughout the endgame to finally end with a checkmating position. It’s simply marvelous!
Nepo is not your average GM, and every move he plays shows that. Want to learn how he does it?

I’m still a fairly new adult learner and have looked at all the major courses and finally feel like I have an option that makes sense for my level and available time.
