Struggling To Beat 1.e4
Because You’re “Too Solid”?
Break out of the rut with the Kalashnikov Sicilian. You too might just pump up your win rate by 87.5%! This fighting defense bends the rules of positional play to your favor, then beats White to the punch with a kingside attack.
Nobody wants to spend 100s of hours preparing openings — only to split the point. Yet Grandmaster Pepe Cuenca (peak 2563 FIDE) faced this exact dilemma as he climbed the ranks.
Becoming a GM demands steady progress, while avoiding losses at all costs. Which is why Cuenca prioritized safety against the sharp 1.e4.
But the same bulletproof lines proved to be “too solid” and limiting in must-win games.
Imagine the rating points Cuenca bled every time he’s forced to draw against underdogs. Some untitled and rated 400 points lower!
Cuenca needed over 2 years of meticulous repairs to cover this hole in his repertoire. But not you…
Because you’re taking a shortcut in Lifetime Repertoires: Kalashnikov Sicilian. Inside, you’ll find the same brand of the Sicilian Defense which allowed Cuenca to…
Win Against 1.e4
Almost On Demand!
See the results yourself.
Fire up your favorite chess database. Plug in the Kalashnikov Sicilian’s tabiya pictured below. And narrow down the search results to show Cuenca’s games.
From 2020 to 2022, you’ll find that he scored 87.5% and never lost a game against strong titled players.

GM Pepe Cuenca scored 87.5%
from this position as Black
Here’s how the Kalashnikov Sicilian works.
After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3, you’ll double-down on the dark squares with 2…Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4, then stake your claim in the center with 4…e5 to reach the tabiya above.
Pushing the e-pawn two squares leaves a hole on d5. But it also rules out f4-based attacks by the first player — meaning you enjoy a safer king than most Sicilians.
But even better:
The tempo gained on the d4-knight adds momentum to your development. So your attack comes faster than anything White could muster.
In fact, you’ll meet the most challenging main lines with a fianchetto-supported pawn storm, which almost plays itself!

White’s queenside campaign reaches a standstill,
and there’s not much they can do about
your kingside pawn roller
Many top 100 grandmasters have relied on the point-clinching power of the Kalashnikov Sicilian. Like the 15th highest rated player in history Teimour Radjabov…
The 8-time Spanish champion David Anton Guijarro…
And the 2018 World Rapid Champion Daniil Dubov.
So wherever you are on the rating ladder, rest assured this fighting defense can stand and deliver!
Here are more reasons to love this repertoire:
💥 Outplay even the most “booked-up” opponents. Cuenca cross-checked 7 books and courses on the Sicilian, and uncovered improvements at almost every turn.
💥 Precise move-orders simplified. You only need to follow a few “rules of thumb” to bring your position into maximum coordination.
💥 Exhaustive coverage of the sidelines. White’s unusual 2nd moves and Anti-Sicilians received serious attention through 11 chapters. So you’ll never have to worry about those odd lines people play in the club.
💥 Over 16 hours of immersive video. Cuenca built a worldwide following by turning complex and mundane chess topics… into practical and energetic instruction. So you can’t help but learn the lessons.

I’ve only reviewed all the black lines but I am liking the author’s approach of adding exercises after each chapter to make sure you are looking at the positions themselves rather than just routinely memorizing the lines without absorbing the content of his commentary.

At this level this course covers a sweet spot.

I’m still a fairly new adult learner and have looked at all the major courses and finally feel like I have an option that makes sense for my level and available time.

Some courses handled the opening principles nicely
