Inside Your Games – Edition 1 is a premium diagnostic training product built around 15 real games played by members of the Modern Chess Academy and analyzed in depth by GM Ioannis Papaioannou. These are not polished model games chosen for aesthetic value. They are authentic tournament games, containing the typical inaccuracies, wrong plans, and critical decisions that decide games at the board.

The goal of this project is simple but ambitious:
to teach you how to think better in real positions, not how to memorize perfect moves.

Engine-Free by Design

One of the defining features of Inside Your Games is a deliberate decision:
no chess engine was used in the analysis.

This is not a limitation, but a pedagogical choice. Engines calculate perfectly, but humans do not play chess that way. Over the board, decisions are made based on evaluation, experience, structural understanding, and practical judgment. That is exactly what Papaioannou focuses on throughout the course.

Instead of asking “What is the best move?”, the analysis asks better questions:

• How should this position be evaluated?

• What plans are realistic?

• Which ideas are tempting but strategically flawed?

• Where does human thinking typically go wrong?

This approach makes the lessons transferable — not only to one position, but to countless future games.

What the Course Contains

Section A — Annotated Games

The core of the course consists of 15 fully annotated games, each based directly on Papaioannou’s recorded video analysis. The annotations follow his explanations closely and focus on:

• pawn structures

• piece coordination

• strategic plans

• critical decision-making moments

• typical thinking errors at different rating levels

The emphasis is on understanding, not correction for correction’s sake.

Section B — Test Positions

After the annotated games, you will find a dedicated collection of test positions. These are moments where Papaioannou explicitly invites you to pause the analysis and think for yourself. This section transforms passive study into active training and helps develop real decision-making skills.

Section C — Knowledge Base

The course concludes with a Knowledge Base of carefully selected model games taken from existing Modern Chess camps. Some of these games include annotations originally created for those camps. Their role here is not explanation, but reinforcement: to help you recognize familiar pawn structures and strategic themes handled correctly by strong players, after you have already worked through the problems yourself.
