What is a Quiet Move?

A quiet move is paradoxical by nature. On the surface, nothing happens – no piece is captured, no immediate threat is created. But under the surface, the position is transformed. Very often, such moves are the ones that decide games at the highest level.

They might appear in many different contexts:

• The defensive resource that holds together an apparently collapsing position.

This is not a theoretical repertoire or a collection of sidelines. Instead, Dreev and Basso take us on a journey through 20 carefully chosen masterpieces – games and fragments selected for their aesthetic value, difficulty, and instructive clarity.
