Are you tired of making careless mistakes in your chess games? Do you struggle to see the best moves and calculate accurately?
If you’re serious about playing chess, study calculation – before openings, endgames, or anything else.
It’s the ability to analyze complex positions, anticipate your opponent’s moves, and find the best possible move in any situation.
But why exactly does calculation matter so much in chess?
Here are a few reasons why:
Firstly, the calculation is what separates the average chess player from the great ones. A Grandmaster might not see the next 40 moves, but he can literally see a lot beyond what the ordinary eyes can. It’s what allows players like Magnus Carlsen, Garry Kasparov, and Bobby Fischer to make incredible moves and win games that seem impossible to the rest of us.
Secondly, chess is a game of precision, and even the smallest error can cost you the game. If you don’t calculate your lines, you are playing “hope chess”. Not ideal, my friend. By calculating your moves carefully, you can reduce the risk of making costly blunders and increase your chances of winning.
Thirdly, calculation helps you anticipate your opponent’s moves. By analyzing the board and predicting what your opponent might do next, you can develop a stronger defense and counterattack with greater effectiveness. And your opponent will be left wondering, “how is he reading my miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind?”
Finally, and this is my opinion: calculation is simply more fun. Chess is a game of strategy, and nothing is more satisfying than making a clever move that catches your opponent off-guard. Look at that smug smile on your face!
By honing your calculation skills, you can revel in the game on a more profound level and relish the experience of outwitting your adversary.
That’s exactly what GM Miloje Ratkovic is here to teach you today, with his brand-new course, Deep Calculation for 1400-2000. A 5-hour video training that teaches you EVERYTHING about calculation, from the comparison of lines to the elimination process, and much more.
Here is what you’ll learn:
- 1…c5 would have been great BUT… Black chose to play Nxc4?? instead. Not opening the diagonal for the Black queen and letting the White bishop space to move around – not the best line Black could have chosen. Needless to say, White won this game. This goes to show how important the art of calculation is.

- The Most Obvious Move? Nope! Black’s knight and queen are under attack. Black needs to save them both. Now …Ne2 seems to be the most natural move. But Black played Qc1!! Can you see why? Black went one step further and not only wanted to maintain material equality but also to come up on top. Check for yourself how the line plays out. (Or see inside the course. Your choice.)

- The h5-pawn massacre. Well, it could have been. White could grab that pawn with either the queen or the knight. He chose the queen. Lo! That’s where Black had a winning opportunity with Nxe5 followed by Qc6+. Instead Black mistakenly went with Nb4? Moral of the story: when you make a mistake, the only hope is that your opponent makes a mistake too.

The calculation is not as simple as “I play this, he plays that, I play this, he plays that, then this…”. The calculation is what sets the champions apart.
So, if you’re serious about playing chess, don’t neglect your calculation skills.
With practice and dedication, you can improve your game, win more matches, and experience the joy of playing chess at a higher level.
Take the first step today and start developing your calculation skills – you won’t regret it!

I have tried a few free and paid repertoire courses but I continued to face a challenge with them
Bryan (verified owner) –
Really good course
Ryker (verified owner) –
he would cover all possible silly reactions that could derail my well-thought opening, and how to deal with them
Liam (verified owner) –
For taking all the fun out of my chess games. I never thought anybody would be cruel enough to make winning so easy that chess has become boring.
Jhony (verified owner) –
Some courses handled the opening principles nicely
Leo (verified owner) –
Now that I don’t need to invest much energy in the opening phase, I can concentrate on improving my middle and endgame play.
Bambang (verified owner) –
I bought this course with video few weeks ago (thanks to @JRHat for recommending it to me).
Anthony (verified owner) –
keep repeating basic principles annoying number of times (sometimes say it with a beard then later repeat it without the beard 😁)
Ang Tu Yua (verified owner) –
I am an expert rated chess player FIDE Rated 2306 who had the privilege to beta-test this wonderful course. I went through some of the chapters of this course namely,
John (verified owner) –
I would never recommend this book to anybody that I would consider a beginner, and maybe not even a “casual” player (depending on the definition).
Angeline (verified owner) –
he gives you basic principles that just works 90% of the situations – it sounded silly to me at first, but then it became a daily prayer
Putri Nuraisyah (verified owner) –
Also, this course is not aimed at advanced and master level therefore; it didn’t overwhelmed me with things that I don’t need to worry about at my level.
Chelsi (verified owner) –
In two recent wins, my opponents failed to follow the golden rules, making it easy for me to win the games.
Gempita (verified owner) –
more importantly, when we have to make an exception to the standard plan, a very good explanation of what would happen if we didn’t do it,
Yunis (verified owner) –
Even above beginner level, knowing the first ten moves is usually sufficient, and the variations in this course average nine moves.
