Learn Fischer Random Chess from a Top Expert
It’s the most popular chess variant in the world.
It’s considered to be the closest to standard chess there is…without all that annoying opening prep.
And as many will tell you, it’s the future of chess in the computer age!
Grandmaster Wesley So – the first ever player ever to be crowned World Fischer Random Chess Champion – proved he’s one of the best when he beat Magnus Carlsen in their first championship…with a score of 13.5 – 2.5!
Now he brings you the first ever Chessable course on Fischer Random – also known as Chess 960.
GM So teaches the basics of strategy, tactics, and openings, as well as advanced play in his ascent to the top in this unique course – so that beginners and established players can both learn this exciting variant.
Learn Simple Rules-of-Thumb to Navigate the Chaos
Unlike standard chess, the pieces on each side are randomized, according to 960 possible starting positions. But other than that, it’s the same – making this an easy variant to pick up.
But if it’s all random from move 1, does it make sense to prepare for Fischer Random? Yes! Here are some of the tips and tricks you’ll learn in the course:
♞ Find inventive opening tactics. Bizarre smothered mates, mysterious X-ray attacks, and funny pins are possible right out of the opening in Fischer Random – learn how to spot them before your opponent does
♞ Identify “new” weak pawns. In standard chess, the pawns on f2 and f7 are weak in the opening, because only the king defends those pawns. In Fischer Random, a weak pawn could be anywhere! Learn to spot the weak ones from the get-go and develop strategies to protecting yours…and attacking your opponents
♞ Deal with awkward pieces on the first rank. Some pieces you always thought were safe in the opening just aren’t in Fischer Random – learn how to recognize them and manage them
Plus, you’ll also practice your standard chess middlegame tactics and strategy – making this a great course to boost your all-around chess.
GM So walks you through his quest to Fischer’s Random’s top spot with over 13 hours of video walkthrough and 250+ practical exercises. He even includes annotated model games to show you how he designed his strategies from start to finish.

Now that I don’t need to invest much energy in the opening phase, I can concentrate on improving my middle and endgame play.

Even when one of my opponents didn’t follow theory, which often happens with beginners,

Decent course. Compared to his other courses, this course is relatively simple and faster to learn. Probably the nature of Grunfeld opening itself could be a reason.

keep repeating basic principles annoying number of times (sometimes say it with a beard then later repeat it without the beard 😁)

Even above beginner level, knowing the first ten moves is usually sufficient, and the variations in this course average nine moves.
Kayden (verified owner) –
In two recent wins, my opponents failed to follow the golden rules, making it easy for me to win the games.

Also, this course is not aimed at advanced and master level therefore; it didn’t overwhelmed me with things that I don’t need to worry about at my level.

I would never recommend this book to anybody that I would consider a beginner, and maybe not even a “casual” player (depending on the definition).
