🗡️Get a huge queenside space advantage after 4.d3 Bc5 5.c3 – in one of the two recommended mainlines, wait for Black to play a6 and respond with a4. Swap light-square bishops on e6 and continue with queenside expansion

🗡️Step up the aggression with 4.d3 Bc5 5.Nc3 – your second more attacking mainline – take Black’s valuable dark-square bishop and leave them with ugly and easy-to-attack doubled pawns

🗡️Active queenside play after 4.d3 Be7 – Black must show their hand here, but you can fix your pawn on a5 creating an avenue for your queen and hitting a weak b7 square

🗡️Get direct control of the center when Black plays misguided sidelines – play fast, make an immediate claim in the center with d4, and avoid the complex game Black is hoping for

Your author Grandmaster Arjun Kalyan has been playing the Italian exclusively for years. It led him to achieve multiple accolades, such as winning the inaugural Chess Super League in 2021 alongside teammate and World Champion Ding Liren.
